125 Gallon Geophagus Paradise Aquarium
Hello sir you said u can add geophagus can live with live plants So right now ive made planted aquarium used some plants like vallisneria, hygrophilas eriocaulon species Can it will live peaceful in that ? In the tank only 1 arowana is living right now.
In Germany we keep that kind of fish in much bigger tanks. To me your tanks are to small - sorry 🙂
The way my dad taught me in the 90s is to do throw a bunch of feeder fish in there for 1 month and if more than 50% of them make it you're good to go.. seriously 🥴 (then whatever fish you have left you put them in the creek out back)
I think I would keep both. (Gina)
I have a Siamese fighting fish and I can’t get the ammonia to go down and I have him in a 10 gallon tank and I have live plants . I also have 3 neons that share his tank.
Love both these fish but Oscars are too big of a headache to deal with personality and maintenance wise. I have a saltwater tank in addition to my 55G freshwater tank and the saltwater tank keeps me busy enough trying to keep it clean and inhabitable for my fish and inverts(Saltwater is way better than freshwater when it comes to inverts). I like Geos a lot but I have settled on Angels as my centerpiece(s) because I think they mesh well with my Wild and active Turquoise Rainbows(who have put themselves at the top of my list of favorites now that I’ve put me a few in my tank). Plus my Black Neons are plump(in a good healthy way) and I don’t worry about losing them to Angels. Geos are astonishing and when I eventually do get another freshwater tank(a bigger one at that) they are on my list to keep. Always love videos and ideas for fish you give! Along with Joanna and John and Lisa I feel in heaven when I buy fish and see your guys’ advice and knowledge come to life in my experiences. I only tend to lose due to circumstances beyond my control anymore and not my own stupidity! As always thanks!
Loved this so much. I adore Oscar’s. The Geophagus are gorgeous.
Thank you 😀
I unfortunately bought, less than impressive Mbuna cichlids from a "big" online super store. Half died shortly after arrival, i.e. within 3 days. The other are hiding in the rocks I provided, lol. i.e. rock fish. They, however, failed to come out, even upon my "sweet fish voice"! I am planning on getting some gorgeous Angelfish and possibly, just maybe, Parrot fish? I have been looing into such. Thank you guys for this video. I do watch you as one of my "best" online fish keepers. I look forward to watching future videos. xo
Nice! I wouldn’t put them in with the mbuna though.
No contest. One is the most beautiful and interesting fish in the hobby. The other is an Oscar.
Too funny 😂
i have 3 tanks with bettas in them. Their water PH seems to stay around 7.8 but isn't that too high? I use halp RO water and half tap water. I live in Florida and our tap isn't the best which is why I started using some RO. Thank you so much for your channel and for any direction you can give me!
I keep them at a pH of 8 with no issues.
I have both in my 180 2 Oscars and 3 geo red head tapohos
Nice!
Without watching, Geophagus.
Such beautiful footage! My dad kept Oscars when I was little. They were big and derpy lovebugs....until the live feedings. They were pretty stealth and quite fast. Never a trace of "food" left! I remember them always rearranging the tank. It drove my mom nuts 😁
They do love to eat!
Big love from Halifax, England
Geo s are beautiful
I love oscars and geos i am keeping them together currently in a 400 gal but now my oscar has eaten my 7 inch arowana . Can i add some tank mates later.?
That tank sounds awesome! Sure - just make sure they are tall bodied - silver dollars, tinfoil barbs, bala sharks all work
I heard they can be carriers of a disease but not show signs. That's why I'm afraid to Just quarantine and then put them in the big tank. I thought giving them medicine prophylactically might kill anything that could be lurking inside of them so they don't kill my other fish. What are your thoughts on that? Is there maybe one medicine that I can give to prevent whatever disease they can carry without showing signs just for extra insurance? Also, should you quarantine and can you quarantine nerite snails along with guppies in the same tank?
You can QT the snails with fish. It might limit some of the meds you can use should you need them though. It is possible that new fish can carry something and spread it to existing fish, but I haven’t found that risk to be high enough to use meds without there being an obvious reason.
I have 4 of these guys in a 15 uk gallon tank with 4 black phantoms, had them a year now and absolutely love them. So active and really confident fish. Beautiful to watch and feed like piranha lol xxx
Both wonderful fish. I kept my oscar in a barebottom 75g by himself. Just like a wet dog, LOL. Great pets.
Just set up my planted tank with fluval stratum (with aquarium fertaliser underneath) its fully planted and started with 5 cardinals and a plec its two months old. I added 11 other cardinals about a week and a half a go. Two of my orginal cardinals have one white spots each, on kne the top fin and the other has one kts tail. Noticed it last night at 10pm, eo i immediately upped the temp to 31degrees Celsius. Added 4 table spoons of aquatic salt, im about to start the medicine...however iv just looked the two white spots have vanished off the the two tetras. I dont know if iv over reacted. It could be white fungus from the driftwood?
Ya, there's a chance it could have been something else. Just keep an eye on it.
@@PrimeTimeAquaticsso I went ahead with the ich x yesterday after I put the salt in. Looking at one of the tetras where the spot used to be there is a damaged fin. The other one seems completely fine. I'm about to do a 25-30% water change, should I run the course of the medicine for a week? Or should I do the water change then one more dosing of ich-x?
Nice
Beautiful fish that big dark red one. dont like the idea of keeping large fish. They just deserve at minimum a pond in my eyes but that's just me. I wouldn't want to be stuck in my living room for my whole life😅. Do they just not swim alot or fast?
Can’t keep those alive idk why.
I have always loved Oscars. Had a 12 inch albino tiger oscar named Chucky that was the ultimate water dog. I miss that guy. Could hand feed him. He'd get excited when you would come over to the tank. You could get close to the tank and open your mouth and it'd piss him off and he'd bow up on you in kind. lol. But he'd never attack you if you had to put your hand into the tank. He'd just wait till you were done and then go about his business. I've never seen any other species of fish be so interactive with people. Hope to one day have a spot large enough to put a large enough tank to keep an oscar or 3. Right now i'm down to just a single nano tank.
I love val grows like weed in my water parameters
Beautiful!!
my tapahoes are skittish so oscar in a landslide around here 😂
fun vid. Great visiting your channel.
Thank you! Hope all is well.
Yeah, I love plants. Hate the snails that come with them.
After adding plants to my tank for about half a year now I can say having a aquarium with plants is easier than a aquarium without plants
I love Oscars! My Oscar, Buddy, has a ton of personality!
They sure do!
Beautiful! Love Platies! I just acquired six coral red platies. Can you tell us Jason what type of crypt that is?
I wish I knew. Haha
@@PrimeTimeAquatics 😂 I know right? There’s so many types.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics It actually looks like Cryptocoryne Hudoroi.
Very similar in appearance to Java Fern, but without the two lines of black seed spots on the leaves.
I can't go bigger, but my tiger Oscar seems okay in my 55. I'd love a five foot tank one day, but I already have seven tanks running. Great combo video. Thanks
As a Geophagus enjoyer, I like the fact that most of them are quite calm compared to other medium sized cichlids and that I can keep them with comparatively small and peaceful fish. Oscars have much more personality, though. Someday I would love to do both in a 300+ gallon lol
I like their calm demeanor too.
I have a pair, one black one albino, I had to split them up because the albino was hogging all the food and thus grew to twice the size of the black tiger, so now I have one in with my African cichlids, the larger albino. and the other I kept with my sharks because he was so much smaller and was still swimming end to end up and down, but for sure do not keep Oscar’s and iredescent sharks together, if they are the right size they can’t harm eachother really but the sharks spook easy and are missiles! They won’t harm you or anything else but they can harm themselves. This being said I’m in the middle of moving the sharks to a much larger forever home
This should have been a podcast debate😂
That’s a good idea 😀
Should I spray the eggs with watter since I do not have a top?
Yes!
I'm an Oscar guy. I've basically had one in my home since 1985. I'm not saying I always kept them in the greatest of situation, especially early on in my fish keeping adventures, but I have had at least one. I just can't NOT fall in love with their little personalities.
I hear you!
I would like to see this continue I would like to see severum vs geo
That’s a good one!
My Dad kept an Oscar when I was a kid. Such a cool fish and I'll always have a soft spot for them.
We have a redhump eartheater at work and they are a pretty unique fish, for sure not for everyone
I have several red head tapajos. love them! I always wanted an Oscar. I have a 125g 6’ tank I am setting up. I have considered an Oscar but it doesn’t seem big enough for a 12” fish. The 72 length seems fine but 18” width for that big fish seems small. What do you think?
I did it, but it is on the smaller side.
The Sveni has to be my all time favorite Geo. Great comparison.
All my tanks are planted. Love them.
I'd like to get Oscar's but I don't have room for a 125 gallon tank and I definitely won't in the near future 😂
I hear you!
Love Oscar’s but they are just overdone especially since they get huge.

Love those and rhadnocentrus
I made one just like this 😮😮😮 but I have guppies in there
